Change in Support for Same Sex Marriage by State - 2004 to 2011

Each horizontal bar shows the change in support for same sex marriage in a state. The left end of the bar indicates the level of support in 2004, and the right end of the bar indicates the level of support in 2011. If the bar is blue, Barack Obama won the state in the 2008 election. If the bar is red, John McCain won the state. If a state passed an amendment barring same sex marriage, the year of the amendment is displayed to the right of the bar for the state. Clicking on a bar causes a popup browser window to be displayed that shows the result of running a web search on that state. This last feature shows the ability to click on a display element and drill-down to view more detailed information. This interactive example requires the installation of Java.
