Update offers advanced data pattern search capability, greater
flexibility in rendering graphs and user interface customization

SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 19, 2005 – Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. (www.stottlerhenke.com) today announced the immediate availability of an enhanced version of its DataMontage™ software for rapid visual analysis of complex, time-oriented data. DataMontage 1.1 introduces several new features that add more analytic depth and user flexibility. For example, non-linear time scales let users “zoom in” on data in a narrow time period of interest while viewing the rest of the data in compressed form. Datapoint queries dynamically highlight data points that satisfy user-specified criteria, enabling more sophisticated searches for patterns in the data. In addition, DataMontage 1.1 lets organizations customize the software’s user interface to best suit their applications and users’ preferences, and it affords users more flexibility in rendering and labeling graphs.

DataMontage is a Java class library that offers unparalleled flexibility to display information- dense collections of timelines, time-series graphs and time-stamped notes. DataMontage enhances reporting and decision support systems for medical data review, manufacturing data analysis, market research, and planning and scheduling – environments in which professionals are often called upon to quickly glean meaning by detecting time-oriented patterns spanning many variables.

Scientific Systems Company, Inc. (http://www.ssci.com), a Boston-area research and development company, adopted DataMontage in their Problem Oriented Information Networking Tool (POINT) under development for the U.S. Army. POINT uses DataMontage to present information-dense problem-oriented graphical views of patient data to physician users, generated using an extensive medical knowledge base and sophisticated inference mechanism.

“Using DataMontage’s rich programming interface, we can quickly implement sophisticated, graphical displays with fine control over their appearance and customized user interactions,” said Dr. Lingji Chen, Principal Investigator on the POINT project. “Also, DataMontage provides unique visualization methods, such as non-linear time scales and timeline correlation, which enable physicians to see subtle patterns in complex data sets more quickly and intuitively.”

DataMontage is one of a family of commercially available intelligent software tools and applications offered by Stottler Henke, a software development and consulting company with deep expertise in artificial intelligence and other advanced software technologies. “DataMontage helps decision-makers connect many dots to form a discernable picture,” said Jim Ong, Group Manager at Stottler Henke. “By presenting coordinated collections of graphs and timelines, DataMontage makes it possible to find important relationships in complex data much more easily and rapidly than can be seen using traditional graphs.”

DataMontage allows users to view graphs and timelines stacked vertically or arranged in rows and columns to see patterns spanning multiple variables. Flexible control over the color, shape, and size of graph and timeline symbols lets users encode multiple attributes and highlight significant data points. Colored lines and regions in XY graphs help users compare data points to reference values and ranges. DataMontage lets users see additional information associated with each graphical data element using mouse rollovers, popup HTML windows, and navigation to another web page. Any Java applet, application, or Web server application can configure the content and format of DataMontage displays via Java application programming interface (API). Programs written in Java or in other languages can also configure DataMontage displays by creating Extensible Markup Language (XML) files.

DataMontage 1.1 is available immediately. Stottler Henke is marketing DataMontage to independent software vendors, systems integrators, and end user organizations. Pricing starts at $695 for a minimum configuration of developer and end user licenses. Development of DataMontage was funded in large part by the U.S. Department of Defense.
