FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stottler Henke Launches DataMontage 2.0 Visual Data Analysis Software

New release dramatically simplifies design of graphs for displaying complex, time-linked data, extending facility to non-programmers

SAN MATEO, Calif., May 14, 2007 – Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. (www.stottlerhenkeinc.com) today launched DataMontage™ 2.0, a major new release of its Java™ class library for rapid visual analysis of complex, time-oriented data. DataMontage 2.0 dramatically simplifies the process of designing information dashboards and other graphical displays, and how they are populated with data. As a result, individual analysts – content experts who are not software programmers – for the first time can author their own analytic, time-series graphs and timelines, which can then be incorporated into custom desktop and web-based applications.

DataMontage enhances reporting and decision support systems for health care, pharmaceutical clinical development and drug safety, market analysis, engineering data analysis, complex systems monitoring, and military simulation analysis, planning, and after-action review — applications in which professionals must interpret complex data and reach decisions rapidly by detecting patterns spanning many continuous and discrete variables and events. By presenting coordinated collections of graphs and timelines, DataMontage makes it possible to find important relationships in complex data much more easily and rapidly than can be seen using traditional graphs. Fine control over the graphical presentation of multi-attribute data points, reference values and regions, and layout enable analysts to detect important patterns and trends, interpret their significance, and discover causal relationships.

DataMontage is one of a family of commercially available intelligent software tools and applications offered by Stottler Henke, a software development and consulting company with deep expertise in artificial intelligence and other advanced software technologies.

Among the new capabilities in DataMontage 2.0 are:

  • DataMontage Editor, which makes it easier to design the layout and appearance of the displays and enter data to create mockups, templates, and displays containing actual data; and
  • SQL support, which lets the graph designer attach parameterized SQL queries to the graph container as a whole, or modules, graphs, and timelines within the container. This enables users to populate a DataMontage graph template with data (e.g., for a particular patient) using the DataMontage Viewer, and simplifies the process of retrieving data from a database into DataMontage. The Application Programming Interface is still available when more control is needed over how the data is retrieved, transformed, and inserted into DataMontage.

Phase Forward embeds DataMontage

Phase Forward, a leading provider of data management solutions for clinical trials and drug safety, has embedded the DataMontage data visualization technology within the company’s Clinical Trials Signal Detection (CTSD™) product for monitoring clinical trial drug safety and its Web Submission Data Manager (WebSDM™) product for standards-compliant clinical data submission to the FDA.

“DataMontage provides a ‘snapshot’ view of information for a single patient in a clinical trial, which enables our users to view the information concisely, and is one of many ways CTSD helps to speed review, analysis, and interpretation of clinical trial data,” said Chan Russell, president of Phase Forward’s Lincoln Technologies safety division. “DataMontage complements the rest of our products’ functionality, which in combination helps our customers to make more- informed decisions about the safety of their vaccines, drugs, devices, and biologics. DataMontage’s modular design made it easy to integrate into our solutions.”

“DataMontage 2.0 provides a much easier way to design the layout and appearance of graphical displays for data review and decision-support systems,” Jim Ong, group manager at Stottler Henke, said. “Now that individual analysts can design their own analytic time-series graphs without relying on help from a programmer, the entire process of developing critical graphics can progress much faster than before. In addition, DataMontage 2.0 makes it possible to share graph templates with other users and more easily incorporate these graph designs into custom desktop and web-based applications, so the graphs themselves — and the time and effort spent developing them – can be more widely and effectively leveraged.”

DataMontage is a Java class library that offers unparalleled flexibility to display information- dense collections of timelines, time-series graphs and time-stamped notes. It allows users to view graphs and timelines stacked vertically or arranged in rows and columns to see patterns spanning multiple variables. Flexible control over the color, shape, and size of graph and timeline symbols lets users encode multiple attributes and highlight significant or unexpected data points. Colored lines and regions in XY graphs help users compare data points to reference values and ranges. DataMontage lets users see additional information associated with each graphical data element using mouse rollovers, popup HTML windows, and navigation to another web page.

DataMontage’s modular architecture and extensive Java programming interface enable it to be embedded within desktop applications, Java applets, and Java web server applications to provide powerful visualization capabilities throughout the organization. DataMontage’s published Extensible Markup Language (XML) file format enables programs written in Java or in other languages to configure and generate DataMontage displays.

DataMontage 2.0 pricing and availability

DataMontage 2.0 is available immediately. Stottler Henke is marketing DataMontage to indepen- dent software vendors, systems integrators, and end user organizations. Pricing starts at $395 for a single-user license of the Developer version of DataMontage; for $895, up to 20 users can run the End User Run-Time version of DataMontage to display interactive graphs and populate them with data. Web server pricing is $1,295 per server CPU. OEM pricing is also available.

Development of DataMontage was funded in large part by the U.S. Department of Defense.
