SimCore-Health Authoring Tool

The SimCore authoring tool is made up of several editors for creating and modifying the various elements of a scenario. The following is a very brief explanation of these editors. More details can be found in the user manuals accompanying the product.

SimCore Authoring Tool

Figure 1: A scenario consists of a set of scenes where different actions are enabled for the student. This editor allows authors to specify the scenes that make up a scenario, specify the characters and props that are active in a scene, and the possible transitions from this scene. They can also specify the events that can be triggered while in a scene.

Figure 2:Here, authors can specify the characters that are present in a scene. It specifies the actions that are available to the student and the parts of the character that are “hotspots” i.e. targets on which a student can perform an action. For example, here the neck is specified as a target for the Child character. Elsewhere, the author will be able to associate actions with each of these target areas. In the simulator, all the actions associated with the child’s neck will be presented to the student when he clicks on the child’s neck.

Figure 3:This shows the author specifying the props in a scene. Props are just like characters, with the exception that characters represent humans in the scenario.

Figure 4:This enables authors to specify the events that will get triggered in a scenario. Each event is defined by the precondition that determines when it should be trigger and the effect it has on the scenario. Optionally, an event can be specified to be turned inactive under specified conditions.

Figure 5:This shows how the Flash simulation can be authored using the tool. Here the author can associate images with the scenes specified earlier, and image hotspots with character and prop target areas.
